Student Life, Pride Alliance, United Students Government, Residence Hall Association, Equity and Campus Diversity, the Counseling Center, and the Bengal Ally Network are hosting a day full of National Coming Out Day celebrations in the Union.
During the day we will be accepting donations for a LGBTQ+ resource library being established on campus. If you would like to donate but cannot attend our events, please contact Sean P. Terry in Student Life to arrange a drop off/pick-up.
Coming Out Day events
Campus offices along with Planned Parenthood, Pride Center of Western NY, Evergreen Health Services, and the Mocha Center will be tabling and offering resources and treats to our campus community. Stop by to receive an "I am Buffalo State" pride button to show your support for our LGBTQ+ community members.
Take some time at the end of the day to connect with students and other faculty and staff in a calm and welcoming environment. Light refreshments will be served.
DJ Likk will be spinning some tunes as attendees let loose and celebrate National Coming Out Day with contests and an abundance of dancing.
"Every year on National Coming Out Day, we celebrate coming out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) or as an ally. On Oct. 11, 2017, we will mark the 29th anniversary of National Coming Out Day. Twenty-nine years ago, on the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, we first observed National Coming Out Day as a reminder that one of our most basic tools is the power of coming out. One out of every two Americans has someone close to them who is gay or lesbian. For transgender people, that number is only one in 10. Coming out - whether it is as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or allied - still matters. When people know someone who is LGBTQ, they are far more likely to support equality under the law. Beyond that, our stories can be powerful to each other." - Human Rights Campaign
