Dwayne Sains
Nominator (Student): “I saw this man cleaning the halls and bathroom one morning and I thought to myself that it was odd that he was doing community service. Later on one of the custodial ladies told me that she was having a bad day and he realized this and offered to help her clean because he didn't have any classes for the day.”
Kelly Danielle Homan
Nominator (Professor): “Last Friday, in my role as Phi Alpha Theta (PAT), the history honor's society, I was in the PAT office and Kelly Homan was there as well. She had just returned from Dr. Andrew Nicholls class where the had been actively promoting our book sale. Over the past two semester the organization has collected books to sell from faculty members in the department. As a result of her announcement, and her followup after class, the organization sold 25 dollars worth of books. We are using those funds to help pay for our expenses when we travel to the PAT regional conference in Geneseo in April. What is great about this, is that Kelly will not be attending the conference, but is doing her part to make sure that her peers have enough funds to go! I am so proud of Kelly for working to make sure that the organization is well supported. She is working hard so that her peers can show their research to a larger audience. It is great!”
Arianna Stupple
Nominator (Professor): “Arianna is a remarkable young lady who is an invaluable asset to our department. She is the leader among the students in our program. She was elected President of the Student Political Society and has resurrected this club from dysfunction and disarray. She has battled aggressively and intelligently to gain re-recognition for the club and to reestablish its budget with USG. Her actions have not only helped the Student Political Society but have been followed by numerous other student clubs. Without Ari's tireless efforts, the students within the political science department would not have the opportunity to be enriched by a number of extra-curricular actives including debates, presentations and conference presentations of their research. She has done all of this with extraordinary good cheer and resolve. What makes her efforts most remarkable is that over the past year and a half Ari has been dealing with a significant injury to her ankle. What started as a simple sprain has developed into a potentially permanent disability. She has traveled back and forth repeatedly between our campus and NYC to see specialists to gain relief from the pain and restore mobility to her ankle. So far, none of the various medical procedures have proven successful. Her ankle remains immobilized in a walking boot and has removed her ability to participate in sports and other activities that were a regular part of her life before the injury. Through all of this, Ari has remained upbeat and a joy to encounter. She brightens the halls with her presence and makes the world and the people that exist around her better through her actions and her spirit. I could not think of another candidate that is more deserving of the 'Caught Doing Your Part' award."
